Cataclysmic System Binding Loss is a love letter to dichotomy. It's a record of noise and peace, love and anguish, harmony and dissonance, connection and dismantling, cold technology and warm nature. There is dynamic movement between juxtaposed forces.
Throughout the album, there are opposing sound materials existing simultaneously. They give meaning to one another, providing direction and sustenance. The space that emerges between these oppositions provides a much needed solace. In the wake of substantial change and dismantling, comes a requiem. Loss of binding forces.
The instruments used to create this work include modular synthesis, field recordings and algorithmically sampled piano performances.
The opening piece, "Demonic, Teadrunk, Lovestruck" is a movement of joy, celebrating the expression of multifaceted gender and identity of self.
The second piece, "Algorithms For Pianos and My Wounded Heart", features algorithmically sampled piano performances and dissonant synthesis textures. It's a reflection of the self placed within culture, and the congruence of opposing forces affecting one another. Striving for balance.
The final two pieces, "Serialism Scar Tissue" and "Silicon Destruction", feature several field recordings and dynamic synthesis techniques. They are reminiscent of the world's natural structure while facing the cold and dramatic modern world.
"This was created in a time where I've reached for catharsis. Looking for something to hold onto as our environment, and my personhood, shifts in dramatic swings."
